To eat out in France is different from what else I have experienced.
One example: there is no menu, you eat what Madame has cooked for the day (while Monsieur runs the restaurant and most often their dog “serves” the visiting dogs!)
Wheather it is for lunch or dinner is will be a 5 course meal always in this order:
- Soup
- “Starter”
- Meat/fowl
- Cheese
- Dessert often a tart
The table is all laid including a bottle of chilled red wine, which is included in the menu, the price is around $25
The other day however we found a restaurant with choices but only 3 courses, 2 menus one $25 and $28, each had 3 choices.
The $25 looked like this:
Starter Fois Gras with black current jam and curry powder

Main: Grilled Duck Confit w/ French Fries (I could have chosen veggies!)
I forgot to take the photo before I started to eat – it was so delicious with crisp skin.

…. drum rolls please !!!!! chocolate cake served in a hat made of china w/ black current jam on the sides.

Same “hat” shot from another angle

A view from inside the restaurant to the rain and mountain:

The village is San Cérè , the name of the restaurant is 5 Cérè [5 in French is "cinq" so the pronunciation will be the same both for the village and the restaurant]
A funny wall painting, unfortunately I could not move the table and chairs so I only got about 2/3 of it.
Notice the road sign: 5 Cérè

It was a most enjoyable evening shared with good friends.
We ended the meal with coffee and a walk through the (old) village.
More photos from the village San Cérè can be seen at my Flickr account Surfsusan’s Flick Account

Oh that looks delicious… When will I visit you for a tour there
Thanks again Susanne, for the mouth-watering photographs!
