Now I was kind of lucky here – since I was in a British car [rephrased to RHD suggested by Richard, see below in the comments!] in Portugal and Spain – so it looks like I am in the middle of the road and bridge. (Which I by the way pretty much was!)

This photo ended up with a very clear picture of the construction.

The bridge is over the Guadiana river in the Algarve. The Spanish side is the village Ayamonte and the Portuguese is Castro Marim. It was completed in 1991, after nearly four years, and has a total length of 666 m between the abutments, is 18 m wide and 20 m above sea level at its centre point. It was a lovely sunny day and some grocery shopping were done in Spain and lunch back in Porgual, Castro Marim at resturant Infante, where we were offered free Almond Liqueur with our coffee. – A great day!

There is a beautiful legend from The Algarve:
The story goes that an Algarve prince, who had brought his bride from a land far away in the north, was concerned about his princess melancholic mood.
Nothing would cheer her up until the prince, having discovered that her sadness was caused by her longing for the snow of her native land, had almond trees planted all over the province.
And one fine winter’s morning (that is late January early February here) the princess was dazzled upon witnessing a unique spectacle: the Algarve covered in a white mantle of snow-like blossom.
