The botanical name is “Strelitzia” is named after the duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, birthplace of Queen Charlotte of the United Kingdom; the common name is Birds of Paradise flower or plant. It grows all over Tenerife both in gardens but also wild, they are sold at the flower markets too. You can even by china with the plant as the motive.
The picture below is from my neighbours garden, it has blossomed 3 times in 3 months from November to February – I wonder if it blossoms in the summer.
I think it’s a stunning flower, with great colours and texture.
